A 25-year-old man is expected to appear at Bethal Magistrate’s Court on Friday 22 July 2022, facing a charge of theft and possession of suspected stolen property.

His court appearance emanates from an incident in which he reportedly went into a certain house in Bethal on Thursday 21 July 2022 and allegedly stole some household items.

It is further alleged that during the time of the incident, a woman who was inside the house heard her dogs barking. As she checked outside, she saw a man running away. The woman is said to have then noticed that her two cell phones as well as some knives were stolen.

The woman then informed a security guard from ACSU who was driving and patrolling the area. The suspect was traced by the said guard and found him hiding behind a church building then apprehended him.

The suspect was taken back to the woman’s house. Members of the Community Policing Forum (CPF) were also on board and it is reported that they were earlier looking for the same suspect after seeing him jumping into the woman’s yard.

The man was reportedly found with the said stolen items in his possession which she indicated that the belongings are hers. Members of the police at Bethal were alerted about the incident and upon their arrival, the male suspect was arrested as well as charged accordingly.

He is expected to appear at the Bethal Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 22 July 2022 facing a charge of theft.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has praised members of the security as well as the CPF members for responding with speed which resulted in the arrest of the suspect. “We really commend the role played by the security officer as well as the CPF members in this case. The phenomenon of crime requires the participation and the collaboration by all structures if we are to succeed. I hope that even other areas will learn this good practice, “said the Lieutenant General Manamela.
