Witbank farm attack: Shot pregnant woman immediately gave birth

Members of the South African Police Service in Witbank are looking for three unknown men who attacked a couple at the gate of their farm, apparently trying to hijack their vehicle on Friday 8 February 2019 around 21:40. Information at police disposal revealed that the couple and their three children were in their vehicle, a Toyota Hilux bakkie at the gate of their farm (Seekoeiwater farm), near the N4 highway.

The victim, a 45 year old man reportedly alighted from the vehicle to open the gate when suddenly the trio emerged from nowhere and one of them shot him in the thigh.

His wife tried to get on the driver’s side of the vehicle but was also shot by the same suspect on the arm and in the back. She somehow managed to get his husband back in the car and they all drove away from the scene. The suspects also fled the scene on foot.

The couple was admitted at hospital where the woman who was highly pregnant, had to immediately give birth.

Police have opened two counts of attempted murder and attempted carjacking. An earnest appeal is made to anyone for information that may assist in tracing the villains to contact Warrant Officer Paulus Masango at 072 178 3028, or the SAPS Crime Stop 08600 10111.
