A man (56) was remanded in custody after his brief appearance at the Bushbuckridge Magistrate’s Court yesterday, 20 December 2023 for allegedly raping his step granddaughter.
The male suspect was arrested at night (19 December 2023) after allegedly taking an advantage on his step granddaughter on Monday, 18 December 2023.
According to information, the victim’s mother (28) is said to have visited a male friend, accompanied by her daughter (victim) and whilst she was in the living room, it is reported that, to her surprise, her daughter suddenly came out her step grandfather’s room being half naked.
It was during this time when the victim informed her mother that she was allegedly molested by the suspect.
The victim’s mother reportedly took the victim to report the matter at the Bushbuckridge Police Station.
As part of preliminary investigations, the victim was taken to a medical facility and the suspect was arrested on the night of Tuesday, 19 December 2023 hence his court appearance yesterday day. The suspect was remanded in custody pending his next court appearance on 09 January 2024 for legal representation.
The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has strongly condemned the inhumane behaviour allegedly by someone who was supposed to be the one to protect the victim.
