An escapee, 23 year old Thokozani Malinga, who was sought by police after escaping from lawful custody at the Ermelo Magistrate’s Court, has been brought to book by an off duty cop.

Malinga was nabbed this morning, 30 May 2018, at around 09:00, by an off duty police Constable who spotted and cornered him while leaving his hideout. Malinga escaped yesterday at about 16:00, after he was remanded in custody and scheduled to reappear again today. Whilst being escorted back to the holding cells, he reportedly fled from the courtroom.

Malinga was initially arrested for burglary (business) which he committed during March this year, around Ermelo.

He is now facing an additional charge of escape form lawful custody and is due to appear at the Ermelo Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, 31 May 2018.

The Provincial Commissioner of the police in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma applauded the member for going beyond the call of duty and bringing this fugitive to book.

“This shows a passion and dedication towards his work and all police officers must take a cue from his actions” said General Zuma.
