Burglary suspect escapes from Ermelo court

Police are looking for information that could lead to the rearrest of a man who escaped from lawful custody at the Ermelo Magistrate’s Court.

23 year old Thokozani Malinga escaped on Monday, 28 May 2018 at about 16:00, after the presiding Magistrate ordered him to remain in custody and postponed the matter. Malinga was being escorted back to the holding cells when he reportedly fled from the courtroom.

The court orderlies reportedly gave chase but to no avail. Malinga was initially arrested for burglary (business) which he committed during March this year, around Ermelo. An investigation into the circumstances during which Malinga escaped is underway.

The Provincial Commissioner of the police in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma has urged members to exercise caution when dealing with suspects to avoid escapes.
