Medical negligence by state institutions and claims rise drastically

Claims of patients instituted due to medical negligence by the state’s institutions have risen dramatically, highlighting the extremely poor medical services in the health services industry.

Over the past four years up to 2019, more than R104 billion has been claimed by patients or their relatives against the Department of Health.

Observers point out that this is a clear indication of the quality of health services in state entities, which according to statistics is a four fold increase in claims over the previous four year term.

The claims are largely due to negligence in government hospitals and people who do not have a medical scheme are the victims because they have no alternative solution.
