The FF Plus welcomes the ruling by the Limpopo High Court in Polokwane (Pietersburg) in which two life sentences were handed down to Mpho Mbuyane for the double farm murders of the couple Piet and Tilla van Zyl.
The couple was murdered on 20 August 2017 on their game farm just outside Zebediela in the Immerpan District. Their bodies were discovered the morning of 20 August 2017 at about 09:00 by the family with the multiple gunshot wounds. Their hands were tied and the Police were notified.
Mbuyane was also sentenced to a further 15 years of imprisonment for burglary.
The FF Plus wants to express its gratitude to the police’s crime intelligence, detection and investigation units as well as the Heritage Protection Group (HPG) for their hard work and determination which lead to the arrest of Mbuyane.
This case serves as proof that cooperation between the police, the community, private security companies and the courts is of vital importance in eradicating farm attacks and murders.
The FF Plus hopes that the severe penalties imposed by the courts in these cases will deter others from committing similar crimes.
