The FF Plus welcomes the proclamation issued by President Cyril Ramaphosa on 22 March 2022, authorising the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) to investigate allegations of corruption and maladministration related to procurement in Limpopo’s Department of Health.

Any financial losses suffered by either the government or the Department must be recovered as well.

The SIU’s investigation will look into, among other things, the procurement of, or contracting for, waste-management services in the province and will focus specifically on contracts for the removal, treatment, transport, collection and disposal of hazardous medical waste.

The FF Plus wants to see the investigation expanded to include the rest of the Department as well, because health care in Limpopo’s provincial hospitals and clinics leaves much to be desired.

The party believes that the SIU investigation will merely touch on the tip of the iceberg, thus, other tenders and contracts awarded between 1 January 2010 to 18 March 2022 must be examined as well.

The FF Plus has been fighting against the decline of public health care in Limpopo for the past twelve years and will continue to do so until all corruption and mismanagement is eradicated from the Department.
