Police hunt down unknown male suspects for ATM bombing and attempted murder in Mopani district

The South African Police Service in Limpopo have launched a search for male suspects responsible for multiple offences committed at a filling station, Bolobedu South under Mopani District on Friday 07 March 2025 at about 04:00. They comprised Contravention of Explosives Act 15 of 2003, malicious damage to property and attempted murder.

It is alleged that police received a complaint of an ATM bombing at a local filling station and rushed to the scene. On arrival, they found a Security Guard who informed them that an estimated number of eight male suspects arrived at the business premises and immediately bombed an automated teller machine (ATM) situated between the shops outside the filling station, a few meters from a taxi rank.

While busy committing the crime, two unsuspecting minibus operators arrived at the scene intending to start picking up the passengers but suddenly, the suspects started firing shots at them.

Both minibus operators aged 29 and 41 sustained injuries and were later transported to a local hospital to receive medical treatment and both are in stable condition. Following the incident, the suspects fled the scene driving a Quantum minibus with an unknown registration number.

Upon further investigations, it was discovered that the ATM machine had no money and the suspects fled the scene with nothing in their possession. The minibusses were damaged during the shooting incident and police found several spent cartridges, one (1) ammunition and one (1) projectile at the scene of crime.

A manhunt of the unknown suspects is underway and anyone with information that can assist with the investigations should contact the Investigating Officer Colonel Richard Boshomane on 079 894 5501 or crime stop number 08600 10111 or nearest police station or MySAPS App.

Police investigations are continuing.
