POLOKWANE — A stolen Toyota Hilux valued at R700,000 has been seized in Polokwane during a targeted anti-smuggling operation that resulted in the arrest of a 45-year-old male driver. The recovery of the luxury double cab occurred on Friday, 19 June 2026, along the N1 South public road, thwarting its suspected transit across the South African border.
The successful interception was executed by the Provincial Tracking Team and the Provincial Investigation Unit. They were supported in the multi-agency deployment by CAP Specialized, Tracker Connect, the Insurance Crime Bureau, Tshimollo Security and Investigation, and Shadow Secure Security.
Acting on prior intelligence, law enforcement monitored the vehicle’s movement from Gauteng Province into Limpopo Province. Tracking data indicated the bakkie was slated to be smuggled through the Beitbridge Port of Entry. Officers stationed along the N1 South positively identified the vehicle traveling at high speeds near the Shell Ultra City filling station and initiated an immediate traffic stop.
Preliminary police investigations confirmed that the Toyota Hilux Legend Edition double cab was originally reported stolen at the Loate Police Station in the Tshwane area. The 45-year-old male driver was arrested at the scene and formally charged with possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle. He is scheduled to make his first appearance at the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 22 June 2026.
Police investigations into the broader smuggling network remain ongoing.
