The Limpopo MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Ms. Florence Radzilani, and the Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, handed over new fleet of motor vehicles to various police stations and units across the Limpopo Province at an event that was held at Mankweng Sports Ground, Capricorn District on 25 March 2024.
The recipients of the fleet included the SAPS Tactical Response Team (TRT), Community Policing Forum (CPF), Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offenses (FCS) Stocktheft Unit, Murder, and Robbery Unit, Commercial Crime Investigation Unit, and General Detectives.
In attendance were key officials such as the Deputy Provincial Commissioner, Major General Samuel Manala and Chief Director of Civilian Secretariat for Police, Ms Ntlane Mthimkhulu, alongside Provincial Chairperson CPF Mr Frans Kgasago, Vhembe and Mopani District Commissioners, Provincial Heads, members of the SAPS, the Community Policing Forum Provincial Board, members of the media, and the local community.
During the handover, the importance of maintaining and servicing the vehicles for optimal performance was emphasized. Lt Col Pilusi highlighted the challenges faced by the SAPS Garage, urging Station Commanders to ensure proper vehicle inspections and maintenance.
The Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe also emphasized the significance of the new vehicles in enhancing service delivery, especially during critical periods such as the upcoming Easter holidays and National elections. She stressed the shared responsibility of both the police and the community in ensuring the vehicles are used appropriately.
While the MEC for Transport and Community Safety Ms. Florence Radzilani reiterated the importance of using the vehicles to serve the people responsibly and cautioned against any misuse. She officially handed over the vehicles, emphasizing the importance of preserving these valuable resources.
A total of 50 motor vehicles were handed over with the aim of improving service delivery and fulfilling the mandate of the SAPS which is to serve and protect the citizens of this country.
