Limpopo Police Launch Manhunt After Farm Robbery in Burgersfort

The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Limpopo has launched an intensive manhunt following a brazen farm robbery in the Burgersfort area under the Sekhukhune District. The incident, which occurred on Sunday, 06 July 2025, at approximately 09:30, resulted in the theft of four legally registered firearms, multiple rounds of ammunition of various calibres, and other valuables.

Armed Suspects Overpower Farm Employee

According to police reports, a farm employee was on duty when he noticed a vehicle belonging to his employer’s wife speeding toward him. The vehicle stopped nearby, and five armed suspects—one carrying a rifle—emerged and overpowered him. The assailants tied up the employee and robbed him of an undisclosed amount of cash before proceeding to the farmhouse.

After the suspects left, the employee managed to free himself and alerted fellow workers and security personnel. Upon arriving at the house, they discovered that the suspects had broken in and stolen a safe.

Firearms, Ammunition Stolen; Vehicle Abandoned

When police arrived at the scene, it was confirmed that the safe contained four firearms, various calibres of ammunition, and other valuable items—all of which had been taken. The suspects reportedly used the victim’s vehicle to force open the farm’s perimeter fence during their escape. The vehicle was later found abandoned and damaged on the property. The stolen safe was also recovered nearby, having been forcibly opened to access its contents.

Preliminary investigations suggest that three of the suspects are foreign nationals, while the remaining two are believed to be South African citizens.

Provincial Commissioner Orders Task Team Mobilisation

The Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has ordered the immediate mobilisation of a dedicated task team to track down the suspects and recover the stolen firearms.

“The illegal possession of firearms by criminals remains a major threat to public safety. We will not rest until these dangerous individuals are apprehended and the stolen weapons recovered,” said Lieutenant General Hadebe.
