A farm attack took place on 20 March 2020, at 00:00 in Nylstroom, near Naboomspruit in the Limpopo province of South Africa. Alwyn van Zyl (79) and his wife Rene van Zyl (66) were overpowered in their home by four attackers and both were tied up and Mr van Zyl was strangled to death.

Mrs van Zyl managed to get herself loose and activate the alarm. Reaction units and the SAPS reacted immediately and were on scene before 01:00, blocking the roads. Before sunrise 3 helicopters were deployed and all roads within the radius were closed.

Hundreds of farmers took part in the search in collaboration with SAPS. Three attackers were arrested shortly afterwards about 500 meters from the location. One firearm and bags filled with stolen items were recovered.
