On Friday, July 18, Clifford Cawood died in the Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Centre in Pretoria. Cawood was arrested in connections with two murders in the Bela-Bela area.

The Police arrested Cawood in December last year after body parts, as well as a woman’s body was found in the vicinity of the old Warmbaths Dam. Cawood was still in custody, and the case would be continued in the Bela-Bela district court on Monday, August 1.

Hercules Delport was also linked to the murders and has yet to appear in the Bela-Bela court on the charge of the murders. However, Delport who is currently in prison appeared in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on a separate charge of possessing an illegal firearm.

Ao. Jannie Venter, the investigating officer, said police are still waiting for Cawood’s autopsy report to find out exactly how he died in prison.
