A 45-year-old male was arrested on Friday, 14 June 2024, for raping his 08-year-old stepdaughter at their residence in Sekgakgapeng at Mahwelereng policing area.
According to preliminary investigations, the suspect sexually abused his stepdaughter by raping her between May and June 2024, when the victim’s mother left him with the child. The victim’s mother was away for days to receive treatment as she was not feeling well. On Thursday, 13 June 2024, the mother returned home, and the victim told her mother that her stepfather had raped her and threatened to kill her if she could tell anyone.
She took the child for medical attention at a local hospital, and doctors confirmed penetration.
Police were notified, and a case of rape was opened. The suspect was then arrested.
The Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has condemned the incident and applauded the police for swiftly arresting the suspect.
He is expected to appear before Mokerong Magistrate’s Court in Mokopane on Tuesday, 18 June 2024.
