Police are investigating a case of murder after the body of Louis-John Botha (64) was found on March 2, 2015 in a water pit on his farm, Gwelo, near Swartwater in Limpopo.

Col. Ronel Otto, provincial police spokesman, told Maroela Media that Botha was alone on his farm the weekend. His friends became worried when they were not able to get hold of him.

“When they haven’t heard anything from him yet until Sunday, they called his neighbors and asked to investigate,” said Otto.

She said when the neighbor arrived on Sunday at Botha’s house, it stood open. There was no sign of Botha. The safe was open and there was blood in the house.

“A Quest searching for Botha was launched immediately. His body was found early Monday morning in a water pit, about 200 meters from his house. It is not yet clear how he was killed.”

Otto said it was suspected at this stage that cash and fire arms were missing from the safe. “It was not immediately known how many suspects were involved in the murder. According to footprints at the scene, we believe there are three suspects,” she added.

The investigation continues. No one has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Botha’s son, Louis-John Jr. was killed in a plane crash, on April 24, 2014.
