Just a week or so after the bank association, Basa, announced that they would set up a fund to finance subsistence farmers and disadvantaged farmers to get farms, they have done a u turn saying that it would hurt the economy.

Banks say R1.6 trillion invested in real estate loans is apparently at stake, and hence suddenly the resistance to the planned land theft.
