A 24 year old man was arrested and two cell phones that were stolen during a robbery was recovered by members of Reaction Unit South Africa on Sunday 23 December 2018..

At approximately 12:38 Reaction Officer Kumaren Marimuthoo was on patrol on Oaklands Drive in Oaklands when he was flagged down a member of public who requested assistance after his two daughters aged 14 and 17 were robbed of their cellphones while walking on Redcliffe Drive.

The individual went on to explain that the suspect was armed with a large knife which he used to threaten the victims during the robbery. He also forced the victims to show him their passwords which he used to unlock the phones.

A description of the suspect was circulated to all RUSA Members and an intense search was conducted. The wanted man was spotted on Galaxy Way outside the Verulam Crematorium in Brindhaven. A lengthy chase ensued resulting in the suspect being apprehended by Reaction Officers on Rosemary Drive.

The stolen cellphones as well as the knife used in the robbery was recovered in his possession. While being interviewed the Cornubia resident confirmed that he was previously arrested for rape.

The suspect was placed under arrest and handed over to the Verulam SAPS.
