Shots were fired during a Mariannhill armed robbery in the early hours of 7 July 2017.
Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said a suspect shot at an armed response officer when he responded to the scene of the crime in Hospital Road at around 3.45am.
“The suspect had earlier fired shots at workers on the property before fleeing with a computer and cellphones. When our officer arrived, a suspect who was hiding behind a wall fired a shot at him before turning and fleeing towards nearby bushes. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported,” Mathios said.
“Our officer recovered the stolen computer and cellphones near the perimeter fence of the property. A black bag containing bolt cutters was also found at the scene of the crime where the suspect had forced open a security gate and a door to gain entry,” he said.
Mathios said it was unclear how many suspects had been involved in the incident.
