Several suspects apprehended this weekend by vigilant response officers

Several suspects were apprehended by our vigilant Blue security armed response officers, in three separate incidents this weekend.

Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said a suspect was apprehended when he was caught allegedly stealing reinforcing steel from a property in Umhlanga at around 12.15pm on Sunday. “Three suspects had removed the steel building materials from a container on the premises.

When our officer spotted them, the suspects attempted to flee the scene on foot but the officer gave chase and apprehended one of the suspects. Unfortunately the other two suspect managed to get away,” Mathios said. SAPS was alerted to the scene of the crime and another local security firm also responded to assist.

In a second incident, armed response officers who were patrolling 32 Avenue in Umhlatuzana in Chatsworth spotted a suspect carrying copper pipes and stopped him for questioning. The incident occurred at around 1.45pm on Friday afternoon. “The armed response officers apprehended the suspect who had allegedly stolen the copper pipes from a resident’s property in the neighbourhood,” Mathios said.

In a third incident a suspect was apprehended in Morningside on Sunday after he was allegedly caught shoplifting several boxes of medication. However, the business manager decided not to press charges against him and he was released.

Mathios added that an armed response officer arrested a fourth suspect who was carrying a door and walking along Dunkeld Road in Atholl Heights early on Monday morning. The incident occurred at around 5.55am. “The officer spotted the suspect carrying the door and stopped to question him. The suspect allegedly informed the officer that he had stolen the door from a property in the area. The officer arrested the suspect and alerted to the police to the scene,” Mathios said. The suspect was handed over to members of the Sydenham SAPS who responded to the scene.
