A 35 year old suspect is appeared in the Ntuzuma Magistrates’ Court on 3 january 2020, for murder. The suspect was arrested at Inanda where he was hiding after a rigorous investigation by the detectives.

It is alleged that on 23 June 2019 at 21:10, 29 year old Mnqobi Mthethwa was found dead with multiple stab wounds to the chest near Xolani Road in KwaMashu hostel. The body of Mthethwa who was a hostel resident was found by a passer-by.

A case of murder was opened in KwaMashu police station for investigation. The investigating officers commenced their investigation which bore fruits, six months later. A well-prepared docket will be sent to court for successful prosecution of the accused.

Whilst the operation was conducted in KwaMashu, another 35 year old suspect was arrested along Xolani Road at the hostel after he was found with a pistol in his possession. The firearm had 15 rounds of ammunition and its serial number was filed off.

He was charged for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. He appeared in the Ntuzuma Magistrates’ Court. The firearm will be sent for ballistic testing to ascertain if it was used in the commission of crime and the suspect will also be profiled to determine if he can be linked to serious pending cases.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula applauded police on the arrests.
