On 21 January 2021 at 16:10, the Zululand District Task Team conducted an operation at Okhukho area in the Mahlabathini policing precinct when they received an intelligence driven information about illegal firearms. The team went to an identified homestead where a search was conducted.

Upon searching the house the police found a revolver with five rounds of ammunition. A 60-year-old woman was placed under arrest for possession of illegal firearm and ammunition. The investigation revealed that the arrested suspect is the wife of the man that was arrested previously after he was found in possession of a hunting rifle. The suspect appeared before the Mahlabathini Magistrates’ Court on 22 January 2021, for possession of illegal firearm.

On 13 January 2021 at 10:00, two suspects aged 59 and 65 were placed under arrest after they were found in possession of a hunting rifle with five rounds of ammunition and an AK47 with ten rounds of ammunition. The suspects were arrested by the police officers from the Golela Deployment Task Team and other law enforcement agency at Okhukho area in Mahlabathini. They appeared before the Mahlabathini Magistrates’ Court on 15 January 2021.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula commended the team for the arrest of the suspects and the recovery of illegal firearms.
