A Wentworth man who was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm near the police station has been remanded into custody. He appeared at the Wentworth Magistrates Court on Monday, 26 August 2019 and the case was remanded until 2 September 2019.

On 23 August 2019, a resident arrived at the Wentworth police station to report witnessing a man carrying firearm in the area and requested police to investigate further. The man was found in close proximity of the police station driving a vehicle. Police officers searched the two occupants of the vehicle a firearm was seized from one of the men.

Investigations uncovered that the firearm was stolen during a robbery at Verulam in 2017. The suspect (20) was arrested and charged for being in illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. Investigations are continuing to determine the suspects role in other acts of criminality within the Wentworth police precinct.
