Condolences to family of Chilean tourist, Slavo Yaksic

The Acting Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Weziwe Thusi, has sent condolences to the family of Chilean tourist Slavo Yaksic whose body was discovered with stab wounds at a Ladysmith mortuary over the weekend.

According to reports, Yaksic was last seen alive between Dundee and Underberg, KwaZulu-Natal, on 24 September 2018.

A passer-by found his body on 13 October outside Ladysmith and alerted the local authorities.

His father Sergio identified his son’s body on Saturday, bringing a tragic end to the search for the Chilean backpacker who had been missing in KwaZulu-Natal for over three weeks.

“We have also conveyed our shock, sadness and sympathies to the family of Mr Yaksic and his father Mr Sergio Yaksic on this tragedy.

“His son had arrived in South Africa in August for a holiday with his girlfriend who returned on 10 September‚ but he had decided to extend his stay and backpack across KwaZulu-Natal. Neither his family nor anyone else could have imagined that his trip would end in such tragedy.

“As government and people of KwaZulu-Natal we find this incident tragic and deplorable, that a tourist who was exploring the nooks and crannies of our province would be murdered in this manner.

“We condemn this in the strongest terms possible, and we have called on the Acting Provincial Commissioner General Lucky Mkhwanazi to ensure that this matter is investigated thoroughly, and to leave no stone unturned in identifying the perpetrators of this dastardly deed,” Thusi said. – SAnews.gov.za
