On 27 October 2022, the Pietermaritzburg High Court convicted and sentenced two men to life imprisonment for murder, housebreaking, robbery and unlawful possession of a firearm as well as kidnapping.

On 23 April 2021, armed men entered a farm in Howick where they fatally stabbed the farm owner and kidnapped an employee.

The house was ransacked and the suspects stole appliances, groceries, a firearm and cellphones before they fled in the deceased’s vehicle.

A case of murder and robbery was reported at Howick SAPS for investigation.

A thorough investigation was conducted and it led to the arrest of two suspects, Lulu Sapholakhe Thusi (42) and Micheck Khumalo (47) who made several appearances at court before they were sentenced to life imprisonment.

On Friday, 23 April 2021 at 02:00, Trevor Murphy (55) was at his residence on Wendover Farm in Karkloof when three men attacked him and stabbed him multiple times.

In the early hours of 26 April 2021, Howick detectives as well as the Pietermaritzburg Public Order Police Unit and security officers from Magma security, followed up on information that Trevor Murphy’s vehicle was spotted at Pietermaritzburg Central.
