The Anti Gang and Drug unit arrested two men aged 23 and 26 suspected to be behind the murder of two people in Westbury. The suspects were arrested on Friday morning, 4 January 2019, for the killings that took place in December and June last year.

In the first murder, it is alleged that the victim was attending a funeral in Westbury on 30 June 2018, when he was accosted by the suspect who shot at him. The victim died on the scene. The second victim was shot in Westbury on 15 December 2018. It is alleged that the victim was with other two men when he was approached by the suspect who shot at him. The victim was taken to hospital where he succumbed to injuries.

The murders are suspected to be linked with gangsters in Westbury and the surroundings.

Both cases were escalated to the Anti Gang and Drug Unit for the tracing and arrest of the suspects after it was opened. The arrested suspects will be appearing at Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 7 January 2019, facing charges of murder.

The Anti-Gang and Drug Unit was deployed in Westbury to strengthen the different units that are responsible for clamping down drug dealers and gangsters in the area. Police management, applauded the police that work tirelessly to ensure that Westbury murderers are arrested and brought to book. The police management further alluded that the police shall continue to fight the scourge of gangsters, drugs and murderers in Gauteng.
