Two suspects were arrested on Saturday, 06 June 2026, at the Mooiplaas Informal Settlement in Erasmia following an intelligence-driven joint operation by the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the South African National Defence Force (SANDF).

The operation was launched based on information regarding firearms allegedly stolen during a burglary at a military facility in April 2026. During the raid, authorities recovered two R4 rifles with ammunition, a replica firearm, and a traffic officer’s uniform.

Police have opened multiple charges against the suspects, including the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, possession of a dangerous weapon, possession of government property, and the contravention of immigration legislation.

Investigations remain ongoing as authorities work to determine whether the suspects are linked to other criminal activities.
