Two suspects Lembethe Ndima (41) and Sibuyakunye Mhlongo (33) were on Saturday, 26 August 2023 arrested in Ennerdale Johannesburg for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. Members of the Soweto Flying Squad arrested the pair during a routine patrol in Ennerdale and seized one VW Polo Sedan during the apprehension.
On Sunday, 27 August 2023 members from the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime in Vaal Rand received information about the arrests of the two suspects upon further probing, the suspects revealed that the rifles and ammunition were bought from illegal miners who operate around the area.
The two made their first appearance at the Protea Magistrate court in Soweto for illegal possession of two R5 rifles and an AK47 rifle with ammunition and the case has been postponed to Wednesday, 30 August 2023.
