
The South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Tshwane District has opened a hijacking case and an inquest docket following a police intervention on Thursday, 04 June 2026, which left a suspected vehicle hijacker fatally wounded.
During the operation, officers successfully recovered the hijacked vehicle. A 9mm pistol loaded with ammunition was also seized at the scene. The firearm will be subjected to a forensic examination to determine whether it was used in the commission of other crimes.
Authorities confirmed that no police members sustained injuries during the incident.
Investigations remain active as law enforcement continues to trace and apprehend a second suspect involved in the incident, who remains at large.
