Suspect arrested for kidnapping and armed robbery

Whilst performing their normal duties on Saturday 23 March 2024 in the Brooklyn area, the TMPD cable theft members heard some sort of commotion taking place in Hazelwood Street.

They then rushed to investigate, when approaching, they noticed two African males forcing an African female into their vehicle.

The TMPD members tried to stop the vehicle but it fled on high speed. A chase ensued between the officers and the suspects.

The suspects stopped the vehicle and fled on foot, TMPD officers gave chase and managed to apprehend one suspect.

The female who was kidnapped confirmed to the officers that they robbed her of her cellphone and were forcing her to give them her banking details.

The vehicle was tested and was confirmed to have been stolen in Mamelodi with an active case number. Number plates that were affixed on the vehicle did not exist and did not correspond with the license disc.

The female notified the officers that the suspects threw out a firearm through the window. Inside the suspect’s vehicle, sets of number plates, 5 dummy rounds, and a firearm magazine was found.

The suspect was arrested for kidnapping, armed robbery, possession of unlawful ammunition, firearm magazine and possession of a stolen vehicle.

Investigation is ongoing to apprehend the the suspect who is at large.
