The police were still trying to get control of a riotous mob earlier today, 19 November 2018, after the mayor of Mogale City, Patrick Lepudi, had to be removed on Saturday, 17 November 2018, by a contracted private security company named the “Red Ants”.

Various members of the public were injured during a riot that broke out during an Integrated Development Plan (IDP) meeting at Hekpoort.

According to eyewitnesses, members of the Red Ants randomly opened fire on bystanders from the back of two bakkies and they allegedly used live ammunition while speeding away from the place where the meeting was held.

Numerous people have apparently been injured, including a key member of a local rural safety institution. According to reports, 28 people were transported to the hospital with ambulances.

Lepudi, who became the mayor of the struggling municipality amid controversy in 2017, is by implication illegally using a private security company as an army against the public who stood up against poor service delivery.

The ANC local authority is causing tension in a once peaceful community by, among other things, not keeping their housing promises.

The FF Plus is looking into possibly opening a case of attempted murder at the SAPS.
