A 43-year-old man is expected to appear in the Westonaria Magistrate’s Court for charges of murder, attempted murder and cash-in-transit robbery on Monday, 16 November 2020.

An intelligence driven operation by the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation in Johannesburg together with the Gauteng Taxi Intervention Unit resulted in the apprehension of a suspect who was positively linked to a cash-in-transit robbery that was perpetrated a week ago in Protea Glen, Soweto.

It is alleged that a group of unknown men allegedly set alight a cash van following an armed robbery in Protea Glen where they shot and fatally wounded three people including a woman and security personnel, leaving two traffic officers injured.

The investigation team seized a Toyota Etios which was positively linked to a hijacking incident in Linden earlier this month. Investigation continues and outstanding suspects are being sought.
