Police recovered bombs, AK 47 rifles and suicide vest in Randburg

Gauteng Police recovered more than 60 bombs, AK 47 Rifles, Revolvers, Pistols and large amount of ammunitions in Randburg on Monday, 27 March 2017 at about 14:00.

It is alleged that contract workers were busy with renovations in a shop that is under new management, when they noticed a bag that looked suspicious. The workers then called the police.

On arrival, police from the K9 and Bomb disposal Units found about 60 mortar bombs inside the bag.

On further searching the building, police recovered about 7 rifles that include AK47’s, more than 11 revolvers, about 16 pistols a large amount of ammunition.

Officers also recovered what is believed to be suicide vest with bombs attached into it.

Most of these firearms had serial numbers filed off. No one has been arrested so far and an investigation has been launched
