A constable from Springs SAPS was shot while responding to a house robbery in progress on Saturday, 22 April 2017 at about 20:10 in Springs.

The two constables were alerted about a house robbery in progress and immediately responded. Upon arrival at the scene, police officers noticed a silver BMW X3 driving out of the house and attempted to stop it. The four suspects in the vehicle started shooting at the police, injuring one of the police officers.

The injured police officer was taken to hospital for medical treatment where he is currently in a stable condition.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the four suspects armed with pistols had just robbed a couple and their two children of cellphones, computers and their silver BMW X3. One suspect aged 43 was arrested in Kwa-Thema, an unlicensed firearm and ammunition were seized. The BMW X3 that was taken during the house robbery was also recovered.

Three suspects are still at large and police are appealing to anyone who might know the whereabouts of these suspects should please contact the nearest police station or to call Crime Stop on 08600 10111.

A case of attempted murder and house robbery has been opened for further investigation.
