A man, his wife and two children arrived home in Garsfontein, Pretoria on Saturday 5 May 2018, they noticed that the gate had been forced and that there was a strange vehicle in the driveway.
When the man got out his vehicle to investigate he was tackled by two robbers, they attempted to hijack his vehicle with his wife and children in the car.
During the scuffle the man shot the two robbers dead. It’s believed that one of the robbers was released from prison 3 weeks ago.
It was a terribly violent and traumatic event for the family.
The police arrived on the scene and wanted to take statements, the man however said he would give a statement later with his lawyer present. And when the police wanted to confiscate his firearm he refused saying that if the police gave him another firearm for protection whilst his went for ballistic testing then he would hand it over. The police then took the serial number and photos of the firearm for investigation.
The children who are extremely traumatised got medical attention for shock and will be receiving counselling.
