Police in Gauteng arrested four suspects that are linked to numerous cases of armed robbery in the province, where courier vehicles were targets. The suspects were found with two unlicensed firearms and a jammer.

Police have been searching for suspects that are responsible for robberies of courier vehicles in Gauteng. Information was received about the suspects and a planned robbery in Fourways, Johannesburg. Suspects were said to be driving in a white Toyota Prado.

South African Police Service units that include Gauteng Specific Crime Unit, Johannesburg Crime Intelligence, Johannesburg K9 Unit, Sandton Trio Crime Tracing Unit together with CAP Security and Fidelity Security organised an operation and kept a close observation of the suspects.

On Friday, 4 December 2020, while keeping an observation, the team spotted the Toyota Prado with four suspects leaving the premises. The car was intercepted and upon searching, police found two unlicensed firearms loaded with ammunition and a jammer. Preliminary investigation revealed that the car driven by the suspects was hijacked in Eldorado Park and it is linked to numerous incidents of armed robberies, especially where courier vehicles were targets.

All four suspects were arrested and charged with possession of suspected stolen vehicle and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. Possibilities are that more charges will be added as the investigation progresses.
