Farm murder: Man shot 9 times in front of family has died, Lanseria

A man who was shot nine times on 11 November 2018, during a violent farm attack in Lanseria has died. Johan van Wyk (41), passed away on Tuesday 25 June 2019. His planned marriage to Hanli Barnard was already postponed two times due to complications from the gunshot wounds. Van Wyk was the manager of a chicken farm in the Lanseria area of Gauteng when four black men attacked him, Hanli and their four children were in the home on the farm and witnessed the horrific incident.

Van Wyk was a widower with two children whilst his fiancee also had two children. Van Wyk was shot in front of Hanli and the children. The attackers held gun to a 13 year old girls head. The chicken farmer was shot in front of the children aged 6,11,13 and 18. The attackers then fired shots at the children who managed to escape through a side door but fortunately all the shots missed.

The attackers fled with TV sets, laptops and cellphones. Hanli told Maroela media that they were supposed to be married on 15 December but they could not because of Johan’ s serious injuries. A new date for their marriage was set for 15 June but Johan had to be readmitted to the Helen Joseph hospital on 11 June in a critical condition due to the injuries sustained in the attack on him. A beautiful life of love between this couple will be no more. RIP Johan.
