The case of the farm attacker, Nelson Gwambe (28), who is accused of torturing the Van Zyl couple appeared in the Bronkhorstspruit court on Friday 9 october 2020, his case was postponed to 15 October, when he is expected to apply for bail. Five other attackers are still being hunted. Farmers and concerned citizens gathered outside the Bronkhorstspruit court in a peaceful protest against these atrocities and prayed. There was a large police presence at the court, a number of speeches were made and the message that ‘This stops Now’ was reinforced.

Gwambe, who was one of six attackers, was arrested on Wednesday 30 September 2020, and was found in possession of one of the Van Zyl’s phones and laptop. The attackers fled the farm in the couples bakkie, a white Toyota hilux bakkie registration YSH 728 GP, which is also being searched for.

The Van Zyl couple, Waldi and his wife Cynthia were attacked and brutally tortured by six attackers on their farm on 27 September 2020, between 17:00 and 18:00, in Spitskop, Bronkhorstspruit, in the Gauteng province of South Africa.

Among other horrific acts committed by the attackers, Waldi’s one leg was cut with an angle grinder. Cynthia’s nose was pinched in a vice grip and twisted as they demanded a large sum of money they thought the couple had. The couple sustained terrible injuries.
