Police have launched a search for a suspect(s) and are appealing for information after the discovery of the bodies of two children on Saturday morning 19 September 2020, around 05:00.

At around 02:30 on Saturday morning, a 24-year-old mother arrived at Orange Farm SAPS to report her six-year old son and an eight-year old girl who is a family friend, missing. Police launched an immediate search for the two children who, according to the complainant, were last seen on Friday evening 18 September 2020, around 19:00 when they were allegedly walking home from a hair salon.

Police received a call at around 05:00 about the body of a child on the street, and shortly after that a passer-by discovered the second body about 100 meters from the other one.

The children were certified dead by paramedics.

The motive for the killing of the little boy and the little girl is yet to be determined, while a post mortem will be conducted to establish the exact cause of death.

The investigation into this double murder will be prioritized and escalated to the Provincial Investigating Unit, in line with the SAPS position to prioritise the investigation of crimes committed against women, children and other vulnerable persons.

Anyone who may have information that could lead to the apprehension of the suspect(s) is urged to report to the nearest police station or call the crime stop number 08600 10111.

Police are calling on parents to prioritise the safety of their children at all times, and to always be aware of the children’s whereabouts. Children walking in the streets at night must be prohibited otherwise they must be accompanied.
