GAUTENG – Two suspects aged (27) and (28) were arrested in Madadeni KwaZulu-Natal on 21 August 2023, by members of the Germiston based Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation (SOCI) for the murder of Constable Siyabonga Thango (32) who was fatally wounded during a robbery that took place at a liquor store in Vosloorus on 21 July 2023.
It is alleged that on Friday, 21 July 2023, Crime Prevention members in Vosloorus received information about a robbery that was in progress at a liquor store at Goldspot shopping complex in Vosloorus.
On arrival, a shootout between a number of armed suspects and police ensued, where Constable Thango was fatally wounded and robbed of his service pistol. Members from SOCI followed up on information and traced the suspects who were apprehended in KwaZulu-Natal.
The two suspects are expected to make their first appearance at the Vosloorus Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 23 August 2023 for murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances.
