Weekend crime prevention operations conducted around the Province resulted in the arrest of 1698 suspects for various crimes. The operations included foot patrols, stop and searches and tracing of wanted suspects as well as illegal liquor outlets. Suspects were arrested for offences ranging from murder, house robbery, business robbery, possession of suspected hijacked vehicle, rape and drugs.

West Rand police arrested 338 suspects for various crimes including five possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. Amongst those suspects ten were arrested for business break-in.

Tshwane clusters arrested about 585 suspects after conducting road blocks and raiding of hot spots. Suspects were arrested for crimes such as murder, rape, house break-in, dealing in drugs, theft, assault and business robbery.

In the Johannesburg clusters, police arrested eight for possession of unlicensed firearms in Westbury , Alexandra and Jeppe.
All suspects are expected to appear in different courts within the province.

Police would like to applaud the community who continue to come forward to assist the police in curbing crime. The Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Deliwe de Lange, is appealing to the public to report police corruption and complacency by phoning 082 820 6467.
