1200 suspects thrown behind bars for various crimes in Gauteng

The South African Police Service in Gauteng is determined to do all in their power to bring down the levels of crime. During crime prevention operations this past weekend, a suspect was arrested for fraud worth over R3 Million on different cases in Sandton and other parts of Gauteng. The suspect is charged for fraud and theft.

Meanwhile, the relentless efforts of police to ensure that the streets of Gauteng are safer saw more than 1200 suspects thrown behind bars for various crimes committed in different parts of Gauteng. Six-hundred suspects were arrested for hijacking, business robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms during crime operations across Tshwane clusters.

In Johannesburg North cluster, 148 suspects were arrested for the illegal dealing in liquor, drugs and driving under the influence of alcohol. More than 200 suspects were arrested in Ekurhuleni clusters for murder and illegal mining in Benoni.

A total of 148 suspects were arrested in the Soweto East Cluster for crimes ranging from house robberies, rape and house breakings.

All suspects are due to appear in various courts soon.

Crime prevention operations which include high visibility at crime hotspots are to be intensified as we approach the Easter weekend and throughout the school holidays. This is to make sure that as with the past Festive Season, residents and visitors of Gauteng are and feel safe and secure.

Police are appealing to members of the community to collaborate with the police in the fight against crime.
