Fugitive awarded tender by Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality

A Multimillion-Rand municipal tender to clamp down on electricity theft in Nelson Mandela Bay was awarded to a fugitive wanted by the police.

The tender was given to Amat Security and Cleaning Services by the municipal bid adjudication committee in December, even though a warrant of arrest was out for one of the directors.

The aim of the tender is to reduce losses within the energy directorate.

The arrest warrant for Thembinkosi “Mthu” Ntlangani, which relates to a theft case in Seven Fountains near Grahamstown in 2008, was issued in 2010.

Meanwhile, the government’s security industry watchdog, the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (Psira), is investigating company directors Ntlangani and former ANC regional chairman and Bay mayor Nceba Faku for non-compliance. – Gareth Wilson…
