Police have reaffirmed their commitment to combating drug-related crimes following the arrest of four suspects in Phahameng, Bultfontein, during an intelligence-driven operation.
A joint team consisting of the Welkom Anti-Gang Unit, Crime Intelligence, and Bultfontein SAPS apprehended the suspects, aged between 23 and 30, on Friday, 4 July 2025. The operation was launched after authorities received credible information about houses in the area being used for drug distribution.
The first arrest involved a 23-year-old African male, who was allegedly found in possession of five (05) sachets of CAT drugs and six (06) sachets of crystal meth. Further investigation led officers to another location where the same suspect was discovered with an additional nineteen (19) packets of CAT drugs, twelve (12) packets of crystal meth, and R1,320 in cash. He was arrested on charges of drug dealing and possession, and police confiscated all items found in his possession.
The operation continued, resulting in the arrest of a 29-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man on similar charges. Authorities seized four (04) packets of CAT drugs, nine (09) packets of crystal meth, three (03) halves and six (06) quarters of Mandrax tablets, along with R211 in cash.
All four suspects are expected to appear before the Bultfontein Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 7 July 2025, to face charges related to drug dealing and possession.
