FREE STATE — A community tip-off has triggered a major R25,000 dagga seizure in the Bloemfontein CBD, resulting in the apprehension of a suspected drug dealer by the Parkroad Tactical Response Team (TRT).
The intercept occurred on Wednesday, 1 July 2026, at roughly 15:15, during a broader initiative targeting high-crime zones within the city center. While patrolling the area, tactical officers received a crucial call from a vigilant resident who reported that illicit substances were being sold directly behind a grocery store located on Charles Street. The caller supplied precise details regarding the suspect’s clothing and luggage to assist law enforcement.
Utilizing the provided intelligence, TRT operators moved swiftly to the grocery store’s rear area. They quickly identified a 37-year-old African male foreign national who perfectly matched the caller’s description. At the time of the intercept, the man was carrying two specific items: a maroon bag and a black side bag.
A subsequent search of the individual and his luggage yielded significant evidence of drug trafficking. Officers recovered 25 large, transparent plastic packets filled with dagga, which authorities estimate holds a street value of R25,000.00. Hidden within the maroon bag, investigators also uncovered a small silver digital weighing scale. Furthermore, a search of the black side bag revealed an undisclosed quantity of cash, which is suspected to be the proceeds of illegal activities.
Following the discovery, the 37-year-old was immediately arrested on charges of dealing in dagga. Parkroad TRT spokespersons confirmed that the suspect remains in police custody and is scheduled to make his first appearance at the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court in the near future.
