Two fraudsters who were convicted two years ago and given ten year suspended sentences for fuel fraud have had their freedom cut short after they didn’t comply with a court order to pay back crime proceeds amounting to over R400, 000.
The former petrol attendants, Teboho Mokoena (33), Bambalephi Victor Majola (39), were initially arrested following a Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation that linked them to various fraudulent fuel transactions at VKB Fuel Station in Reitz during 2016.
The pair colluded and used petrol card details belonging to Nketoana Municipality to conduct illegal transactions, resulting in the Municipality and the garage losing R477, 040-00 through deceitful dealings.
Following a trial, the two were found guilty on 7 September 2017, they were consequently sentenced to 10 (ten) years’ imprisonment which was suspended for 5 (five) years on condition that they were no to be convicted of fraud or theft during the suspension period.
They were further ordered to pay back the money in instalments with the first payment of R100 000 from each convict scheduled for 30 October 2017, which they never complied with.
The Bethlehem Commercial Crimes Court subsequently authorised warrants for their arrest and they were apprehended on the 18 October 2019, at Petsana location, whereupon their appearance ten years effective imprisonment was respectively endorsed.
