A fifth attacker has been arrested, including a farm worker, after the brutal panga attack on a farm in the Hertzogville area on Saturday morning, 28 April, 2018.

More than 50 farmers with two helicopters assisted the police in a search for the attackers. With this help from the farmers the police managed to corner and arrest four of the suspects. The sixth attacker is now known to the police and he is being hunted.

Captain Stephen Thakeng, a police spokesperson, told Maroela Media that the couple Mr. Japie van den Berg (75) and his wife Emma (75) were confronted outside their farmhouse by the six attackers. They were forced back into the house where two firearms were robbed.

The elderly couple were immediately rushed to a hospital in Bloemfontein and as a result the exact details and seriousness of there injuries is unclear. Ian Cameron of AfriForum did confirm that they were hacked with pangas and have been very seriously harmed. Japie it was reported has suffered severe head trauma from the assault.

Whilst the information and details of the attack are scarce at this stage, a farm worker phoned the police at 07:00 and summoned help.
