The Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime investigation team has arrested 38 year old Sergeant, Jani Elvis Mofokeng for alleged attempted murder on Wednesday 31 July 2019.
Jani, attached to Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS), is alleged to have been part of a group that was involved in an attempted business robbery in March this year. Two armed assailants confronted the shop owner and during the struggle he was shot at the back. He managed to escape and alerted the community of his ordeal. The two robbers left the scene empty handed.
The resultant investigations by the Hawks’ established that Mofokeng was allegedly the driver of the getaway vehicle. He appeared at the Bethlehem Magistrate’s Court on 31 July 2019, and was remanded in custody pending his next appearance on 7 August 2019.
