Four suspects appeared in the Petrus Steyn Magistrate’s Court on 19 July 2017, on charges of stock theft.

Ntwa Dlamini (21), Thabiso Skhosana (28), Daniel Matla (40), and Daniel Skhosana (44) were arrested during a police operation in Petrus Steyn recently.

Hand-picked members of Stock Theft and K9 Units stopped and searched a suspicious vehicle travelling on the Frankfort Road and found 15 cattle which could not be accounted for.

Their case was postponed to 26 July 2017 when they will appear in the same court to apply for bail.

The intensification of operations in Petrus Steyn is a police management decision following complaints of poor service delivery by members of the community. Chief among their dissatisfaction was a perceived lack of police action in arresting stock theft in the area.

Acting Bethlehem Cluster Commander Brig Nkaise Molefe, fresh from receiving an award for her excellence in police operations, has vowed to turn the tables around. “The people of Petrus Steyn can expect to see more blue lights and uniforms. Many are going to be arrested as we direct more resources to the town. Stock theft and other crimes are going to be attended to with increased vigour and urgency. ”

All 15 cattle valued at approximately R150 000 have been safely returned to the lawful owner.

Meanwhile, about 20 people were arrested in Petrus Steyn last weekend alone. Their offences include drug and liquor related crimes among others.
