Farm attack on Magdaleen Britz and farm workers, 3 Mozambicans sentenced

After a violent farm attack that took place on 27 November 2020, on the farm Karkloof, in Verkykerskop, 40 km from Harrismith, in the Free State province of South Africa, the FF Plus has welcomed the conviction and severe sentences handed down to three Mozambican attackers.

The attack on Mrs Magdaleen Britz and her farm workers.

Five attackers assaulted and tied up the farm workers and after being unable to gain access to the home then opened fire, through the window, on a Mrs Magdaleen Britz in the farmhouse.

All three shots that were fired at her fortunately missed.

The fact that the three perpetrators were effectively given a 19-year prison sentence restores some confidence in the justice system and gives those who are most vulnerable new hope.

The party commends the Bloemfontein organised crime unit’s excellent detective work and in particular, warrant-officers EM Mahotsi and JD Engelbrecht for their valuable contribution in the conviction and sentencing of the perpetrators.

To effectively combat farm attacks and murders, it is imperative that the criminal justice system functions properly and that severe punishments are imposed on convicted criminals.

The FF Plus will continue to put pressure on the government to declare farm attacks a priority crime.
